Life-sized Gigantor statue being built in Japan

Of course, because having  just one giant robot isn't enough, Japan is building yet another one. This time, the life-sized statue of Tetsujin 28-go (aka, Gigantor) is being built in Kobe, which will be inaugurated this October.

The project - which costs 135 million yen (roughly $1.4 million) -  aims to honor the artist who created the Tetsujin manga, Mitsuteru Yokoyama, who was also a native of Kobe.

Now, if those suckers start moving (driven by joushikousei, of course), the wife and I will want to move to Japan.

Cosplay Fusion at the Rockwell Mall

I had the chance to attend last week's Cosplay Fusion at the Power Plant Mall in Makati. The event was organized by the Cosplay Circle and was hosted by Alodia and  Ashley Gosiengfiao, and Marcelle Fable.

As to be expected, there were lots of familiar faces and new ones among the cosplayers. And considering that the venue was a fairly unusual choice for a cosplay event, it was very successful. Successful enough that the group has anounced Cosplay Fusion 2 this coming November.

Here are few pics from the event. I wanted to shoot more, but there were simply too many other geeks with cameras like me :-P . Click on the images to view a larger version, or go to the photo gallery for more pics.

sleep is for the weak

I slept at 6:30 this morning trying to figure how to properly integrate my Zenphoto gallery into this WordPress installation/theme. It's been bugging me so much that after just a couple of hours that I had to wake up to take a look at the code again.

Thought I found a solution here but there seems to be an incompatibility with WP 2.7.

Blargh. I'll figure this out eventually.

Ozine Fest 2009: a 3-day otaku festival

This week was a great one for cosplayers, anime fans, and gamers here in Manila, with Otaku Anime Magazine's Ozine Fest 2009 topping off the week's events.

DSC_9556Aside of course from the usual cosplay events spread out during the three days of the Ozine Fest,  the organizers prepared a slew of activities including art contests, console game demos, a maid cafe, battle of the bands and more. They even had a 'matsuri' or festival area where visitors can sample japanese dishes and play games, and of course shop for anime and manga-themed toys and merchandise.
